In Pakistan, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden vehicle into a hotel in a crowded market near Kohat town in the northwest on Friday killing 22 people and wounding 60 others.

TV channels quoting local police said the explosion destroyed several shops, vehicles and created panic as the market was overflowing with shoppers stocking up for the upcoming Eid festival.

The attack on Shia-dominated town of Ustarzai near Kohat was the second blast in two days in the town which is about 60 kilometres from NWFP capital Peshawar.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani condemning the attack, described it as a cowardly act and said the government is determined to stamp out the menace of terrorism from the country.

The blast for which no body has claimed responsibility so far but what appears to be a handiwork of hardline Taliban elements comes as Pakistan military has recently nabbed prominent militant leaders in the Swat valley.
