The Punditty Project begins this foray into Citizen Journalism with a caveat: It could be that TPP is overlooking something at MapQuest.
That something overlooked, whether by TPP or the good people who help us map our routes, is a large-print option for directions.
As it is, our drivers have to copy the MapQuest directions into a Word document, then boost up the point size for easier reading while in the vehicle. Not that TPP would ever advocate DWR (Driving While Reading), but if a quick glance at the directions is required, wouldn't it be nice if drivers could read them without squinting?
Currently, MapQuest allows users to print out either directions & a map, or directions only. The "directions only" option generally includes icons of traffic signs and the like, which many of us would gladly do away with in order to boost up the point-size of the type. As the photo accompanying this report shows, there is a lot of unused white space on the page even with the road sign icons there.
So here's TPP's "Citizen Journalism of the Week Suggestion" (CJWS) for MapQuest: Please work on adding a large-print option, maybe even sans all the icons, along with the two choices currently available.
Drivers all over the world will be glad you did.
