The Pokhran-II failed to deliver the promised result. It seems the report was fudged. The reasons behind this could be many – it is not unusual for Governments to exaggerate achievements. In this case, it could have been a calculated effort to put the fear of N-bomb in the minds of other nations. The incident is similar to the Atom bombs that are burst during Diwali. These A-bombs are a variety of firecrackers that are exploded during celebration time – brand names sell – but, once you come home with a box of a reputed brand and discover that all of them are not giving the necessary bang but fizzles out, you feel disappointed. That is what Pokhran-II boils down to – a costly experiment gone down the drain.
