Iran's hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad waves at the start of ...

In a recent interview with NBC's Ann Curry, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was bombarded with looming, difficult questions on controversial issues pertaining to his country. President Ahmadinejad answered questions on Iran's current nuclear weapons pursuit as well as the recent election controversy and post-election riots.

In the interview Mr. Ahmadinejad would not rule out Iran's development of nuclear weapons, but did say that they would never stop Tehran's work on a "peaceful" nuclear program. According to reliable sources around the world, Iran is extremely capable and able to produce nuclear/atomic weapons. The initial idea of Iran possessing nuclear weapons is a scary thought for Americans, but more so for Iran's neighbors, Israel. Any fear circulating around from these announcements was quickly put to bed by President Ahmadinejad when he reiterated that nuclear weapons were and are not part of the countries plans moving into the future because they "simply don't need such weapons". Mr. Ahmadinejad whether people believe it or not said Iran works towards resolving issues with negotiation, rather than violence.

After moving past the nuclear weapons dilemma surrounding Iran, Mr. Ahmadinejad addressed his controversial election victory as well as the post-election riots. Mr. Ahmadinejad was very adamant in his reassurance that he personally believed all of the Iranian's who protested the results of his election victory were completely welcome to voice their opinions, but in accordance to the Iranian laws. The President also believes that the riots were all part of the United States and British plans to get Mir Hossein Mousavi into office. Skeptics of Ahmadinejad believe that Mr. Mousavi actually won the election, but Mr. Ahmadinejad's connections within the Iranian hierarchy are what ultimately skewed the democratic process.

In some of his concluding statements President Ahmadinejad called the supposed actions of President Obama and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to overthrow Mr. Ahmadinejad in office simply heinous and pathetic. He made it very clear that he believes the United States and Britain should stick within their own borders and stay out of business and governmental issues in Iran.

A country can't expect another country not to have nuclear weapons if they themselves have nuclear weapons. At the end of the day, the whole world should disarm. That's the solution. No one should have nuclear weapons. Period.

Thank you. That's a really rational and well said statement.

No country would ever actually get rid of all it's weapons voluntarily. Look at the history- no country with nuclear weapons has ever been invaded. Nuclear weapons are the best way to be completely sure that your population will be safe from foreign aggression.

Middle Eastern countries have been invaded and re-invaded by westerners many many times. Starting in the roman times, throughout the crusades of the middle ages, into the colonial period when countries and tribes were sliced and diced into new territories for the benefit of northern European powers, into the 20th century with the creation of Israel, the 60's and 70's where the United States propped up corrupt dictators and tyrants and terrorists to fight the soviets, including Saddam Hussein, Osama Bin Laden, and the Shah, which Iran's current government overthrew during the Carter administration. All the way into the 21st century when Iraq was invaded for reasons known only to Dick Cheney and Ann Coulter.

Iran is nervous that they will be the next on the list, and they have an understandable historical animosity towards white guys with guns and crosses. I can't condone their quest for nukes, but I can certainly understand their motivation.

If that's the case, then no country can expect another country not to have nuclear weapons. Either anyone can have them, or no one can have them. If you're at a movie theater standing in line to buy some popcorn, you can't tell the person behind you not to buy popcorn even if you know he's going to mess up the movie because he chews louder than Chris Tucker talks. It's unreasonable. If you want others to do something, you gotta lead by example.
