Miron went onto a fort that was built on a small island in the water, even on a high tide the water between the land and the island was only waist deep. There were two holes in the wall facing the sea where they used to have canons to shoot at the enemy ships. Miron caught a small Soldier Crab on the hook, the crab grabbed the bait with his nippers and held on until Miron pulled it up.
He put the crab in the net, let the line down again and caught a Pink Perch. He let it down once more, the line was broken when it was pulled under the sharp rock. Miron fixed it up and again hooked the Rock Cod. He took it out of the water and half way up it broke the line because it kept fighting. It was the same fish all the time. Miron fixed the line up, it came back again and he ended up landing it on the third try.
Miron had an old watering can that was made of galvanized iron which he found dumped in the hills, Miron put the fish into it. A new male nurse came to take over from the two juniors. Graham Macrow was his name and he even looked in the face like a crow. He called Miron for lunch. Miron left everything on the fort, he went back later. Graham Macrow tried to rule him and Miron told him to leave him alone , nobody controls me Miron said. I don’t care what you say.
Miron went back and Graham came later on with his fishing rod. It started to rain, before that Graham called himself the old fisherman from way back. If that was so why did he snag his line everytime he casyed it out to sea and why did he keep breaking his line all the and catching no fish at all. He may have been a fisherman from way back for catching the fish on two legs, namely women.
He couldn’t catch a single fish even if he tried. Miron cleaned the Cod and accidentally dropped the carving knife from the main kitchen into the sea. He left everything on the fort except the net which also fell into the water. There was rain for two days, somebody else was given the fish because Miron was late for tea and he missed out. Some divers came by, they pulled out the knife and the net from under the pier, they stole the net and returned the knife.
When Miron went for his gear, it was all stolen except for his watering can, the crab and the Perch with the fishing knife, fishing line and hooks and sinkers were all stolen. That made Miron angry and he believes now as he did then that Graham Macrow took everything to teach him a lesson to obey him. Klem Instructed Graham with Miron’s tablets.
Graham refused to give Miron any tablets at all to make him sick and to start taking seizures. He did that because he wanted the knife from the start and to control Miron but he refused to hand it over. Graham claimed that Miron didn’t need his tablets. Who the hell was he to decide that Miron doesn’t need his tablets? Miron complained to Klem. After that, Miron had to go to Klem’s little lodge every day for all his pills and Klem always gave him cups of coffee and biscuits.
Graham did his uttermost to force Miron to stay with the group, he wouldn’t let him do anything or go anywhere on his own. You have to be protected, you can’t do this and you can’t do that. Miron flew at him in front of Klem. Who said I can’t? He asked. The rules he said. It’s you not the rules Miron said, don’t you tell me what I’m not allowed to do. You may fall over the kliff he said.
I’ll smash you if you ever say that again Miron said to him and went for him with a fist. You’ll be locked up if you hit me he said. Klem intervened, no he will not be locked up, I saw the way you are treating him, why don’t you stop the others? Asked Klem. Oh he’s different said Graham. You leave him alone and mind your own business about him said Klem, unless you want to get the sack, he can do it you know.
He can do anything even burn the place down said Graham. Stop teasing said Klem, he can look after himself better than some of the others, he doesn’t need supervision, leave him alone if you want to keep your job. Few staff have been sacked after they picked on him, nobody can have Myron locked up, not even the chief. That was the end of that.
