    Yes, Virginia, they are racists.
Teabaggers

If there's one thing that annoys me to no end, it's people who tell jokes badly.

I'm sure you've suffered through it. They tell you they know a great joke, and before they're through, they've turned it into an ordeal that is anything but funny.

The woman in the picture is probably a perfect example.

She was one of those present at Glenn Beck's teabagging party in Washington last Saturday, and she was very proud of herself and the sign she had made.

"The zoo has an African and the White House has a lyin' African."

Then there's a picture of a lion.

Get it?

Let's forget for a minute that she left out the word "lion" and that if she meant the picture to replace it, it should have been to the left of the words.

Otherwise, what her sign says is "The zoo has an African and the lion White House has a lyin' African."

The saddest part of this is when you look at the fact that she is wearing a wedding ring and consider her age, there is a very good chance that woman is someone's wife, someone's mother and someone's grandmother.

She's obviously not 90, so we can't give her a pass because of her age. She didn't grow up in a racist era and learn the "n" word without knowing any better.

Nope, she's just ignorant.

Or stupid.

Or both.

I have no problem with people being opposed to President Barack Obama and his health care plan, but that woman's poster doesn't say anything about taxes, health care, Socialism or anything of the sort.

All it does is make a racial slur.

All it does is say that the president of the United States isn't a true American, and that he's not even an honest person.

Many of the conservatives who post on this site say that racism has nothing to do with the opposition to Obama, but I'll call that what it is.

Bunk.

I've seen too many signs like this one, signs that attack Obama personally. And before you say they did it to Bush too, the opposition to Bush was based mostly on his level of intellect. Nobody called him a cracker or a honky. Nobody said he wasn't a real American.

Can you imagine being married to this woman?

Or being her child?

Or being her grandchild and seeing a picture of grandma on television or in the newspaper, holding up a sign that shows how bigoted and hate-filled she is?

Poor kids.

Hey Mike - I'll give you the ignorant and stupid, but look again the ring is on her right hand.

Excellent article all around.

I think it's supposed to say, :The zoo has an African lion, and the White House has a lyin' African." It's still pretty tasteless though... glad she isn't representative of the majority of the tea baggers. You can find a few of those in any rally, for either side...

Thanks Mike - I'm undecided, are some teabaggers bigoted and stupid, or are many teabaggers bigoted and stupid? [:-0

Really? You mean some of those people who watch Glen beck and think Obama is a Muslim are bigoted and stupid? Nawwwww...
Reply By firesisle firesisle | 2 months ago
I think anyone who watches Glen Beck, or at least takes 100% of what he says as "gospel" or believes Obama is a Muslim is, drunk, stoned, or just stupid.

However, you can plug in any name for Glen Beck, left or right, and the statement is still same for me. Pundits are for people who don't think. Those that do, don't need them.

tasteless, classless and downright stupid...sad the things we are still facing in this country in the 21st country....it appears change is still a long way coming

There were tons of signs in that I hate Obama rally that were nearly as bad. It was nothing but a disorganized bunch of objectors on any of a dozen or more issues. Mostly they just hate Obama. And that leads to an obvious why, since he is bright, articulate, well educated, is bend over backwards polite to those who oppose him. It always comes down to racism I think.

"he is bright, articulate, well educated, is bend over backwards polite to those who oppose him."

Wellll... so was Ted Bundy.

I'm not saying there's any similarities, only that the aforementioned qualities really mean little or nothing on the issues involved.

The sign's not even racist. It's a play on words. The woman who made it may well be racist, and this may be why she included the word african. Saying somebody is african isn't an insult by itself tho. The left has absolutely nothing to gain by attacking the ignorant bigotted footsoldiers of the right. We need to get off the racist card quick.

Stillthinking is correct.

Sure, it's reassuring to mock followers of "teabaggery" in a "we're smarter than they are" kind of way, but just as any serious critic of the president needs to focus on policies and not personalities to be considered reasonably legitimate, so too should any serious critics of "The Teabag Syndrome" take a closer look issues and causes espoused at such events. Focus on that sort of thing first, then the focus on the people who support them isn't so personal and - dare I use the phrase conservatives love to hate while applying it, in this case, to a liberal perspective? - "mean-spirited."

And some people who are not Teabaggers are bigoted and stupid---so your point is??????????????

Thank you, Cookie.

It is so offensive to hear all these insults and remarks that are based on hate and ignorance and not on facts.

So she put a lion. So it was not to the left of the word African. She make a point, the writer got it, so why does he truly believe that no one else got it to the point where he felt he had to explain it?

The trouble with America today is that Americans forgot what we are supposed to be about.

Oh, please tell me...what is America suppose to be? I'd really like to hear this? And what is Obama turning America into?
Posted By cookiecutter cookiecutter | 2 months ago
Chagez---again I hate people who make broad statements----what lies are being told by Beck---to be credible you must cite exact comments which make him a liar-----otherwise your assertiion holds no credibility---
Posted By cookiecutter cookiecutter | 2 months ago
Afeatheradrift----were you there ---how many people did you talk to at that particular rally----there are always signs and posters at rallys that are designed to get attention---doesn't necessarily mean they hate the person as much as they are disturbed by his actions----You get off honked off but by far much more vicious comments and signs were directed toward GB---and I'm not a GB lover so don't go there with that twisted argument----
Posted By cookiecutter cookiecutter | 2 months ago
ANd please don't scream racist!!!!If I hear that as a defense one more time I think I'll give a great big old scream---behavior/thoughts/ philosophy has NO COLOR!!!!PLease, Please stop throwing that redherring in every discussion that you do not have valid responses.
Posted By cookiecutter cookiecutter | 2 months ago
Nefimi---Yes, change is a long time to come---as long as people use race as a crutch we will get nowhere--if you think you are a victim then you are a victim---if you think of yourself as a survivor then you will succeed----again behavior has no color---so stop yelling racist at every drop of the hat----

Were the people who said all of the hateful things about GWB racist---or did they just disagree with his policies---enough said!
Reply By CaliforniaMike CaliforniaMike | 2 months ago
You don't get to decide when enough has been said. But there's a difference between saying hateful things based on race -- that's racism -- and saying hateful things about policies or about someone's lack of qualifications to be president.

After all, Obama never dressed up in a Top Gun suit with his "package" stuffed and pretended to be a pilot.

Gee Mike you just realized that there are stupid people out there. Wow, next you'll discover that Michael Moore is a moron.
Posted By cookiecutter cookiecutter | 2 months ago
Mike------What the heck are you thinking----now all of a sudden you have the twist on this event-- he said the hateful things based on race---couldn't be because Obama is wrong---all of a sudden everyone of your ilk just know for a fact what was in that man's heart---get real--and by the way my" enough said" was my way of saying that's what I have to say on the topic--in no way would I trample on your right to say whatever you would like to say--that would be arrogant and rude----

Cali Mike - PLEASE do NOT stop writing on this site. Your stuff is awesome and I check frequently to see if you've got new content up. There's such a "grassroots," racist right-wing conspiracy at foot here and it NEEDS to be called out. Keep it up.
