Darren Sutherland was an Irish Boxer who completed the ultimate sportman's dream when he won a bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics. It was that win in the Olympics that had made Sutherland decide to go professional with his boxing and the 27 year old boxer could have made it to the next Olympics to win the silver or gold but any hopes of this were dashed when 27 year old Darren was found hanged in his London home yesterday.
The Metropolitan Police have told press "that they are treating the young boxers death is not being treated as suspicious".
Darren Sutherland's manager was Frank Maloney and it was this 55 year old manager who found his boxer dead being so upset and suffering from apparent shock Maloney was taken to hospital were tests later revealed he had suffered a heart attack. He is now said to be feeling better from the heart attack though the shock of losing one of his boxers may be with his for some time to come.
Sutherland is the fourth boxer to die in the last few month's, July saw the death's of former champion boxers Arturo Gatti, Vernon Forrest and Alexis Arguello.
Former Irish Boxing Champion Barry McGuigan, gave tribute to Darren Sutherland by saying "that the boxer had the ability to win a world title". While James De Gale, Olympic Middleweight Champion told press " that Darren had been a boxer with a great future and his whole life in front of him. My heart goes out to his family and everyone who knew him".
