The FBI probe that triggered several raids in Queens yesterday has hundreds of FBI agents in Colorado keeping non-stop surveillance on five people. They are focusing on a Denver based terror cell who they think is making plans for another attack as big or larger than the September 11, 2001 tragedy.
New York authorities searched three apartments in Flushing on Monday, looking for bomb making ingredients, explosive powders and fuses. Several men were detained, but later released. In the above photo, a boy inside one of the apartments raided yesterday is looking out the window, probably afraid.
A former senior counter-terrorism official stated "The FBI is seriously spooked about these guys planning another 9/11. This is not some FBI informant-driven case. This is the real thing." It's also being reported this has been an ongoing investigation with plenty of substance to back it up.
The counter-terrorist operation included Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants to listen in on phone conversations and intercept e-mails on Arabic and Pashto speaking targets.
The FBI is upset with New York Police commissioner Rayond Kelly over the raids that took place on Monday. They believe it could have scared off the cell, which is said to be plotting another attack in New York.
Other sources are confirming the disagreement between the FBI and NYPD. An investigator in the case said Kelly prefers to "act too soon rather than act too late."
