Activists of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun began today in downtown Yerevan protest against the "Protocol on establishing diplomatic relations" and "Protocol for the development of bilateral relations", initialed by Armenia and Turkey on 31 August. Sit-in held at the Republic Square in government buildings and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. Shares held under the slogans "No preconditions," "Do not deny, do not give in, do not deny!". It is expected that some protesters will begin a hunger strike. Intends to join the hunger strike and the leader of ARF faction Mr. Vahan Hovhannisyan. Members of shares demanded the resignation of Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian and started to collect signatures against the adoption of the Protocols in their present form.
Talking to journalists, the head of the Bureau of the Committee of the Armenian issue ARF Dashnaktsutyun Kiro Manoyan expressed regret that "the authorities of Armenia has not yet begun a public discussion on the protocols. He advocated a number of changes in the protocols. In particular, according to Manoyan, we are talking about provisions for the recognition of the current Armenian-Turkish border on the 1921 Kars Treaty, the establishment of the historical subcommittee to study the fact of the Genocide, which could hinder the international recognition of Genocide, as well as linking the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations settlement of the Karabakh problem. According to him, the ARF proposal next week will be discussed at parliamentary hearings.
"Faction" will take part in a roundtable of political forces in the country on the Armenian-Turkish relations, which will be held on the initiative of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on September 17, leader of the ARF faction Mr. Vahan Hovhannisyan. He said the protest will be completed after the adoption of proposals by the authorities of the party. Hovhannisyan said that such actions will take place in the regions of Armenia, as well as in the Diaspora, "to prevent deception by the authorities and to invite people to the discussions.
