As a civil engineering student, I appreciate order and harmony. My poem Wise Cooker reflects this. It tells of the union of two ideas – cooking and literature -- and the end-product is a distinctively original poem. The poem I Care reflects my personal views on friendship. More importantly, it defines ethical boundaries which I believe are truly important in any relationships. May the God of Abraham. Isaac and Jacob bless my readers
Poems from Louie “Gilbert” Bolante
I Care
You’re not alone, my friend
I am here, beside you
Always loyal;
But I will never lie for you;
If you are wrong
Then you are wrong –
Period!
That is true friendship;
But if you want someone
As a partner in crime,
Then go to a syndicate
Then go to jail
Then go to hell
For all I care.
Wise Cooker
A friend once said,
“Why not try sending
your poems?”
Another friend said,
“Why not try learning
how to cook?”
So I said,
“Why not try both?”
Sautee garlic, onion
laurel, pepper and pork;
pour soy sauce and boil
while writing the manuscript;
when you’ve finished the masterpiece
pour some vinegar;
add some sugar
to make it sweet.
