The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards has a homecoming as it returns to New York. The award show will use the Radio City Music Hall as its homebase, where it all began back in 1984. The network reports that performances to be broadcast will take place at other locations around Manhattan.
So to honor the Big Apple, the full length promo for the show is a throwback to the musical "West Side Story." It features Cobra Starship, Ne-Yo, Katy Perry,, and this year's comedic host, segueing from the choreographed Jets-Shark fight to a reworking of Bernstein-Sondheim's "Tonight."
The saucy brit Russell Brand will host for the second year in a row. Performers will include Green Day,, Pink, Jay-Z and Lady Gaga. And will provide a musical tribute to her beloved brother, Michael Jackson.
Who will win a Moonman statuette? What craziness will go on, and how much of it will have to be censored out? You can tune in at 9pm ET on Sunday, September 13, 2009 to find out.
