I saw Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince three times opening week. I'll admit that by the third viewing, I fell asleep a bit near the end. Not because it's not climactic or boring but because I know the story so well and I was dead tired. I decided that I would give my Harry Potter itch a break for a while. That is, until I got the invite for the press screening of the IMAX Experience.
It was the most exclusive screening I've ever been to. Normally, when invited to a press screening, you have to arrive early in order to grab a seat before they fill the theater with as many people as possible. Eager fans line up hours ahead of time in order to ensure entrance. For the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: The IMAX Experience, it was just us. With only ten to fifteen people in the entire Boeing Theater, there's absolutely nothing to distract you from the 35' x 60' screen.
The lights dimmed, I put on my 3D glasses (required for the first 13 minutes of the film) and then I was instantly immersed into Harry Potter's world. With absolutely nothing else in my line of sight besides this gigantic image before me, I actually started to feel a part of the story. I know what you must be thinking, here's one of those girls who always wished Hogwarts was real. I am. I'll admit that. JK Rowling's world always felt very real to me. The movies never really did her justice, until now.
There's always been something larger than life about the Harry Potter series. Now, with The IMAX experience, it can be. It helps that I think that Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince was an exceptional movie, but I promise you, seeing it again on IMAX is worth the extra money.
