Ragging and attempted suicide

The horrors of ragging continue to follow the fresher in colleges – this time, the 19-year old son of a farmer was the victim. He was a brilliant student and the marks he scored got him a seat in a prestigious Calcutta Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology & Allied Health Sciences. But, his experiences there nearly brought about his death. The seniors ganged up on him and inflicted physical injuries including slashing his wrists and forcing him to smoke cigarettes and take drugs. Unable to bear the pain of the physical torture and the humiliation, the boy consumed poison when he came home on vacation. He is now under treatment in a hospital for trauma and injuries to his body. The police and the authorities of the institute are investigating the case and assure that the students who committed the rimes would be punished. But, would it ever happen? Those who indulge in such behaviors enjoy protective umbrellas of rich families or political Big Brothers. It might finally be proved that they were nowhere in the vicinity on the day of the supposed torture!!
