France is regarded widely as the country of love and romance, but the question lingers now for how long? French President Nicolas Sarkozy appears to be on the path to banning the two traditional greeting kisses, one on each cheek as President Sarkozy and the French Ministry of Health fear this may spread the H1N1 virus. These traditional two greeting kisses are one of the most celebrated parts of French social life and the response to this band by French citizens is expected to be anything but friendly.

With the H1N1 virus spawning up all over the globe in large amounts, the fear of the virus spreading in France has also led the Ministry of Health to ask French citizens to keep a three foot "buffer zone" around each person as well as abandon hand shakes when greeting friends or family. The Swine Flu is definitely a scary virus going around, but to simply make ourselves "bubble boys" is not going to work and even spread unnecessary paranoia around the world that is not needed. If President Sarkozy does indeed decide to make kissing and handshaking "illegal" it will undoubtedly be protested heavily by the French countrymen and woman.

i'm sure they can practice safer precautions although thinking about it kissing and handshakes can spread a lot of germs but you seriously can't ban it!

It's ironic that Sarkozy, with his background, would want to ban any physical contact between people. What does he want, people to go around ringing a bell yelling, "Unclean...unclean."?

Well, caveatlector, it could be worse, we could one day see him ringing that bell and yelling, "Bring out yur dead!" like he was in an old Monty Python movie.

Having lived in France for a year when I was twenty, I seriously doubt that any law is going to make the French change an ages old practice like social kissing.

Also, doesn't this whole kissing/touching fear of spreading disease thing smack of the paranoia of the early days of the AIDS epidemic?

Can anyone provide plausible evidence that mere casual contact can spread H1N1?

yeah that's gonna help. no contact also great for relationships. Imagine the divorce rate. No i can't where in public stop! officer hes breaking the law arrest him.

I think it's a good way to prevent spreading of virus since it might affect the people's health.

It just seems like such a pointless thing to ban. That is the usual extremist method of dealing with something. Ban it.
