Khatmandu: Milan Karki, a 19-year-old Nepali boy has created sensation of sorts by trapping the solar energy with panels made of human hair.

Milan has researched for an alternative to silicon which makes trapping solar energy through panels prohibitively costly. He read findings of Stephen Hawking that human hair could produce static energy and worked on the theory. As the melatone that gives colour to the hair not only traps solar energy but also conducts it, he has prepared panels made of human hair and proved that solar energy could be produced much cheaper with his new finding. He said the panel made of hair costs only one fourth of the solar panel and halr a kilogram of hair could be used to light an entire house for some months. The solar panel made of human hair has now cost him 23 pounds and Milan said its cost would come down further if it was produced on a large scale. He said each solar panel would produce 9 volts (18 watts) energy. The boy who was inspired by the legend Thomas Alwa Eddison dreamt of inventing some thing and had finally achieved it with the help of three more students.
