The first NFL game of the regular season will be played tomorrow on the 10th between the Tennessee Titans and the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers, at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. The NFL always schedules a good opening game because people have been waiting for months for the NFL to start back up again. Here are the matchups for both teams.
QB: Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger will have the advantage over Tennessee's Kerry Collins even though there is a civil lawsuit pending with Roethlisberger. The lawsuit is rather hilarious; I'll let somebody else write about it.
RB: The advantage goes to Tennessee's duo of Smash and Dash (LenDale White and Chris Johnson) over Pittsburgh's Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall.
OL: Tennessee has the better line because Kevin Mawae is in the middle. The Steelers won the Super Bowl in spite of the offensive line.
Receivers: Pittsburgh's trio of Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, and Heath Miller is one of the best receiving crews in the NFL. Tennessee's best wide receiver, Nate Washington, is a game time decision.
DL: The edge goes to Tennessee with Jevon Kearse and Kyle VandenBosch at the defensive end spots. Pittsburgh's defensive line just has to hold their own and allow the linebackers to create havoc.
Linebackers: Pittsburgh has the best LB corps with James Farrior, Lamarr Woodley, James Harrison, and Lawrence Timmons; although Timmons will be out for this game. Tennessee is no slouch at LB with David Thornton, Keith Bulluck, and Stephen Tulloch. The advantage goes to Pittsburgh because Harrison and Woodley does damage every game.
DB's: Although Pittsburgh has Troy Polamalu, Tennessee has one of the top duos at cornerback with Nick Harper and Cortland Finnegan.
Special teams are a wash.
Tennessee will rain on Pittsburgh's parade and win 21-20. Let me know if you like the preview and then I would be able to do some more of these previews during the season.
