In Manila, Philippines today, September 9, 2009, breaking political news was broadcasted. Senator Noynoy Aquino, son of former Philippine President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino and former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, announced his presidential candidacy for the May 2010 national elections. It was public clamor that encouraged him to run.

He chose a colleague, Senator Mar Roxas, grandson of a late President, as his vice-president. If Senator Roxas accepts the vice-presidential offer, they are going to be a strong team. Filipinos believe that Senator Aquino can save the Philippines and make a national turnaround in its performance if he becomes the President. He was a long-term Congressman and is a 1st term Senator. Forty days after his mother’s death, he obliged to make a crucial political decision that can change the Philippine political landscape. His colleagues and countrymen hold him in high regard.

A Philippine presidential campaign allegedly costs P20 billion. It is believed that he does not possess this sum. However, his political allies are able to fund for him. Since his mother fought for Philippine democracy, he is willing to continue that fight with the lighted torch held by him. His mother left a legacy of freedom that burns brightly in him. Today, at Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan, a sea of yellow floated the political voyage.
