TEXAS: The Democratic Party’s leadership from the state of Texas kicked off their 2010 election campaign today from the platform of the Muslim Democratic Caucus for the primary elections to be held in March 2010. These party primaries will be contested from Governor down to judges.
The Democratic Muslim Caucus Texas arranged an Iftar dinner at BarBeque restaurant in Carrolton, Dallas in which a wide cross section of the Muslim community participated. On this occasion, Boyd Ritchie, the Chairman of the Democratic Party in Texas addressed the gathering as a keynote speaker.
He said that the incumbent Democratic Administration in United States is Muslim friendly and policies of Obama administration are to establish relations with Muslims across the globe on the basis of equality, respect, mutual interests and shared understanding. He added that it was a new initiative which would be translated into reality.
He believed that 2010 elections would bring several new states into Democratic column including the state of Texas. He opined that the democratic candidates would continue the Muslim friendly policies and do their best in resolving Muslim’s issues, after winning elections.
On this occasion, candidates also introduced themselves and expressed their resolve that they would strive to the maximum to serve the Muslim community in the resolution of their issues including civil rights and outstanding immigration issues. They also apprised the audience with regard to their program and future policies.
The local Muslim leaders also spoke on this occasion and applauded the expressions of appreciation by democratic candidates and assured them of their complete and unstinted cooperation. The Muslim leaders as well as the audience gave resounding applause to the nominees of the Democratic Party for the primary elections.
The Muslim caucus leadership including their president Syed Fayyaz Hassan, and board members Aftab Siddiqui, Hadi Jawad, Dr. Inayat Lalani, Tariq Jaffery, Amir Rehman and others thanked the Democratic Party candidates and assured them of complete cooperation and support of the Muslim voters.
Betty Ritchie who is member of Democratic National Committee also assured Muslims of inclusion in national policies. Five Democratic Party county chairs spoke on this occasion includes Darlene Ewing – Chair Dallas County Democratic Party, Steve Maxwell – Chair Tarrant County Democratic party, Shawn Stevens – Chair Collins County Democratic party, Bill Brannon – Chair Hopkins County Democratic Party, Phyllis Wolver – Chair Denton County Democratic Party, Among other speakers were Lupe Valdez – Sheriff Dallas County, Jim Foster – County Judge Dallas County, Larry Duncan – President Dallas County School Board, Norm Lyons – Tom Schaefer for Governor's campaign Advisor, US congress and Texas house candidates, Number of incumbent Judges and challengers.
