NEW YORK: Top seed and defending champion Roger Federer reached the quarterfinals of the US Open on Monday with a 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 win over Tommy Robredo of Spain.

Federer will play Robin Soderling of Sweden to qualify for the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for a record 22nd straight time.

    Soderling is a strong player after all he beat Nadal at Rolland Garos. Fed wont find this match so easy. I am a Federer fan but I hope Soderling goes on to win this one. Feddy needs to lose once in a while too.

    Thanks for this update. Federer is one exceptional athlete. He's always a favorite to win it all. I'll definitely have to check out the highlights. Soderling is up next, and he won't be easy. But I think Federer will pull through. Let's see what happens.
