Well, here is another surprise! Iran continues to make it's nuclear bombs. Seems they have pissed us off again!

The Iranian leader vowed to forge ahead with uranium enrichment, even as a deadline of the end of this month, even though Obama wants to continue talks about dissuading President Ahmadinejad.

His(President Ahmadinejad) remarks came only days after the Iranian parliament approved all but three of his Cabinet choices, sparing him a bruising confirmation battle after his disputed election victory.

We should be interested more in what Iran has up its sleeve than what President Obama will speak about tomorrow to school children! This is going to make a huge impact on the war on terrorism.

Since China and Russia don't want to stand up against Iran, it looks like US is all by themselves in the war against nuclear arms.

Venezuela announced a deal yesterday to supply Iran with 20,000 barrels of petrol a day, underlining the difficulty of isolating Tehran without broad international consensus.(1)

Iran may be the fifth largest oil producer, but they only have a refinement capacity of 60% of their needs (2)

Israel has threatened military action to stop Iran from becoming the second nuclear power in the Middle East. Israel maintains its own covert nuclear deterrent.

We, as the Western Diplomats, struggled to have stronger sanctions on Iran yesterday.Again, we were the laughing stock of the world.

One plan, currently before the US Congress, is to ban exports of refined petroleum products and tighten control over Iran’s activities in the financial and insurance markets. A ban on petrol would hit Iran since it imports about 40 per cent of its needs. Petrol shortages have, in the past, led to domestic protests.(3)

Shockingly, China is helping Iran to domesticate and refine their oil by 2012. Obviously they are not on the same side we are! Their assistance will make oil MORE expensive than it already is!

Fortunately, France and Germany lobbied for harsher sanctions. They believe if we don't punish Iran, Israel will seek an air strike.I agree.

When will our president wake up and realize there are worse fears out there to tackle? When are we going to realize the war on terror isn't over?We have lost,it seems, and we need to do something to protect ourselves!

This must be one of the hardest news items to try to follow at the moment, as it is almost a political musical chairs scenario, or the Johnny Cash song about the one the right being is the left. Please keep up posted.

Unless nuclear weaponry is abolished--all countries, US included--there is no protection option for any of us, in my estimation. Humanity is so easily distracted, as you point out, by little conflicts that are simply tempests in a teapot (Obama's back to school speech--good example!). We are, meanwhile, killing ourselves.

I agree with both of you. I really don't understand why one nation can have nukes, and another can't.
  • Reply By lecia lecia | 3 months ago
well if you are against any nation having nukes then you should be pushing to stop iran and pushing the rest of the world to dismantle theirs not sanctioning continually adding nuke nations from some "he has one so i want one to" mentality

It seems like on of the dumbest arguments ever. In the first place Iran can develop nukes; it is their right under law. They can't use them, but they can develop them. To assume the Irani leadership is so daft as to use them is to denigrate a political culture that dates back 3000 years. That would be a fatal mistake that would end with millions deadand prove the lies of people in power around the world; they don't want peace, they want to stay in power by w/e means necessary.

If we create nukes, and don't use them, what the hell is the point then? And if we say, you can't have nukes, and we do, then isn't that hypocrisy? Banish them all then, because eventually someone is going to get pissed off and say hey, we made a bomb out of liquid, and we can strap bombs to babies and other people, why the hell not use these nukes? we don't even have to pay the airline tickets to bomb someone, just make thsi nuke convienantly in our backyard and then boom! ha!ha! your all dead...and then before you know it, everyone is bombing everyone...even if you don't believe in God or believe in the BIble...this sounds a lot like Revelations, eh?

The minute the first H-bomb was invented the technology was there and the completion of the weapon was available to those that could develop the bomb.

The question is... if the United States had not used the bomb(s) in Japan - it would have still existed - just used against us first and the end result of WWII would have been perhaps different.

The philosophy of "you have it, I can too" does not make sense and here is why... you would never hand a match book to an arsonist and you would never place a pedophile as a restroom attendant in a day care. There are reasons we keep the weapons - because there is a threat always that others (Pakistan, Russia, India, CHINA, North Korea) will use them. It's more of a defense than an offense in this country - now more than ever.

Lastly - you'd never say it is ok for Adolf Hitler to have control of nuclear weapons - so saying it is ok for a man that sympathizes with the nazi cause and denies the holocoust - is lunacy.

September 11th is too easily forgotten by most Americans and it may be a distant memory to some who think our actions were not justified but to them - I boo... The middle east is rebuilding for another event and just yesterday former governor George Pataki who was there on 9/11 said: "There is no question in my mind he [OBAMA] is jeopardizing our security. You cannot turn terrorists loose, turn them back to where they came from and not expect them to engage in that activity again. We've already seen the example of a number of Guantanamo detainees who were released and returned to the battlefield, fighting our troops, fighting others who are trying to uphold the rule of law and defend freedom. So that clearly places us in jeopardy."

I was just wondering what a modern day Shakespeare would make of such a twisted tale as this?
  • Reply By Write4Life Write4Life | 3 months ago
Could you elaborate? Do you mean man brings about the demise of his own world in less than one century?
  • Reply By brigidprimrose brigidprimrose | 3 months ago
I feel that with all our worldly technology that humans are still a bit wet behind the ears as we seem to forget what has happened yesterday because we are worrying too much about a tomorrow that may never come.
I often read Shakespeare when I feel that my thoughts are a bit cloudy and I need something to focus on to bring reality into the picture.
Should we laugh or cry at what is happening these days, I just do not know if we are living in times of comedy or times of tragedy, and only time I suppose will tell us.
