Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani said Thursday that Sindh governemnt has successfully tackled the law and order situation by arresting gangs of dacoits, terrorists and anti‑social elements.
“I am happy to note that there has been a drop in the rate of street crime and kidnapping for ransom”, he said in his opening statement while chairing the special meeting of Sindh Cabinet at Chief Minister House here.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and members of Sindh Cabinet were also present on the occasion.
The Prime Minister said that people of Karachi heaved a sigh of relief as a result of these measures. However, he warned that these elements may again try to re‑group and damage life, property and business and therefore the efforts to completely eliminate this menace must continue.
He noted that the recent surge in targeted Killing and bank robberies in Karachi needs to be curtailed. The Federal government is supportive to the Provincial government’s endeavors to fight militancy in all forms.
He pointed out that recently instructions have been issued to Ministry of Interior to provide real time intelligence information to provincial governments, timely ad effectively.
Referring to economic challenges, the Prime Minister said that economic meltdown that the government inherited has been arrested. “Macro‑economic stability has been achieved. Foreign exchange reserves have crossed the mark of $14 billion and the economy is now set to resume the high growth path,” he opined.
He said that severe electricity crisis that the government has inherited is being addressed as a result of a crash program being undertaken.
