This video is already circulating the world wide web and I wanted to throw my 2 cents in. It's a Public Service Announcement created to convince teenagers not to text and drive. I think it's very effective. However, this PSA has stirred up controversy because of the level of gore. That's exactly why it is effective! I'm sure that in real life, car accidents are much more gruesome. I must admit though, when I was watching, I wasn't expecting the amount of blood and I teared up when the little baby was shown on-screen while his parents sat unconscious in the seats.
If the PSA were to air in the United States, I would recommend that it air during the late night hours, when little children are (hopefully) asleep in their beds. It needs to reach the teenage demographic because this is something that they need to hear. I feel absolutely comfortable comparing teen texting to driving while drunk. Your attention isn't 100% focused on the road and your reflexes are slower.
Just the other day, a girl from my town of Saint Anne got into a car accident because she was texting while driving. She survived, but I wonder--if she had watched the video beforehand, would she feel more inclined to text behind the wheel? I hope the answer would be no. Yes, I believe the PSA will shock and frighten, but teenagers need a wakeup call. Don't text and drive if you value your life.
