Law & Order TV Fan Out Smarts Criminal

Little did 24 year old Judith Faeth, an executive assistant at City Lights Media, know she would turn into a version of Detective Olivia Benson from the TV series Law & Order: SVU on June 15th in Midtown.

Smooth talking ex-con Kevin Moore, 50, walked in the lobby at 6 East 39th St. around 1:30pm, authorities say. Faeth happened to be in the lobby of the building, while Moore asked Faeth for a cup of water. He drank half the water and left it on the front desk.

Faeth did not know Moore had swiped an iPod, cellphone and wallet before running out the back door of the building. After she found out what happened, Faeth thought about her favorite TV show and went to work, playing the part of Detective Olivia Benson.

She saved the cup Moore drank from for fingerprints. She was disappointed when uniformed officers weren't interested in her evidence. The police told her due to lack of funds, they only do DNA for murder and rape cases.

Fortunately, detectives from the Midtown South Precinct came back the next day and asked for the cup. Luckily, it was still in the trash as the cleaning crew had not yet made the rounds to this particular trash can.

After the DNA was ran, the cops got a match with Moore who had a long criminal history. Moore was suspected of carrying out as many as ten similar robberies and was busted on August 21st. He was charged with burglary and grand larceny, according to a spokeswoman for the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

In 1983, Moore went to prison for burglary and was convicted again in 1988, 1989, 1995, and 2003, according to the Department of Correction's web site.

Maybe it's time for Faeth to reconsider her career. Good going Law & Order fan.

Self-spam. Go figure! Wait...I can't talk. I do the same thing. My bad. It's a habit I picked up from Blogger.Teehee...

Interesting article. I wonder what made the detectives come back for the cop. Maybe their Sarg or Captain reamed them about ignoring evidence. Lack of funds. Now, really. What a gift for criminals in that jurisdiction.

Maybe the cops were ready to take a break for some coffee and donuts. Probably once the detectives found out all the other crimes this guy had committed, they decided to go back. I'm glad the cleaning crew hadn't made their trash rounds yet! Lucky break.
