Emergency in Athens

Athens : Greece | 3 months ago
Views: 64

A state of emergency has been declared in Athens due to the wildfire. It has reached to within 12 miles of the center of the city and anti aircraft misiles from the nearby missile base have been moved to safer locations. Authorities attribute this disaster to be a result of destruction of over 30,000acres of green cover. Assistance is being sought from neighboring countries like France, Italy and Cyprus who are expected to be dispatching firefighting planes and helicopters to contain the rage. The number of fires is increasing with around 70 different locations affected. Large scale evacuation of people is on and areas near to the town of Marathon are in danger as are archeological sites like Rhamnus which is the site of two 2500 year old temples.
