The man who revolutionized pop music and pioneered the 1960's girl group sound, Phil Spector, isn't happy today. Charles Manson and Sirhan Sirhan are neighbors. Spector is not actually in the same prison as the two well known murderers, he's at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison at Corcoran. Manson and Sirhan are in a nearby facility in the same town.
Sector was convicted in 2009 of murdering B-movie actress Lana Clarkson inside his Alhambra mansion in 2003 while they were both highly intoxicated. Spector tried to convince the jury Clarkson committed suicide, but they didn't buy his story. He's not eligible for parole until 2028, at the age of 88.
To Spector's credit, he co-produced the Beatles "Let It Be" album, had over twenty five top 40 hits between 1960-1965, produced and co-wrote "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers that is listed by BMI as the song with the most US air play of the 20th century and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. Now he will probably spend the rest of his life in prison.
His lovely and rich wife number four, Rachelle, thirty years his junior, drives the 400 mile ride from their Alhambra mansion every weekend to visit the depressed Phil. She picks up his sinking spirits.
What a pure waste of genius and talent.
