Christopher Nolan acknowledged today that after four months of negotiations he has contracted Hugh Grant to take over Heath Ledger's role as the Joker in a Dark Knight follow up.

"A third film would simply not have worked without the Joker in it. Hugh has a lot of respect for Heath's work but he is going to bring an entirely new take to the role," says Nolan.

"My Joker is based a bit on John McClain from the Die Hard films. The type of chap that says yippe ki yay in the face of an explosion," says Grant.

The announcement has ended the months of douchebag fanboy speculation that began the second Heath Ledger was found dead over who would play the Joker.
