Stupid Advertising

SABC has been flighting an advert for Foundry Premium Cider which always makes me laugh. In the advert the young chap licks the Great Wall of China and then tells us that despite the number of people it took to built and the number of years it was under construction, it doesn't taste so good. Well SURPRISE!! It wasn't meant to be tasted. He then takes a bottle of cider and tells us how many steps it has to go through to be perfect; he then samples his bottle and tells us it tastes great. It would be so much funnier if, at the end, he samples his bottle and then says: "And it tastes AWFUL!!!" That would really make a good advert.

Well Chris, I like cider but I can't find it in the Philippines except the cursed apple cider vinegar, the shit that is bottled by the mental patients in the sheltered workshops of Australia who are given a dollar or two a week for their labor. I worked in a place like that years ago and some patients got drunk on vinegar and had to be rushed to hospital to get their stomachs pumped out. I couldn't stand the smell of it. 20/8/2009.

In my opinion the most stupid advertisement currently being aired on SABC is the one for Farmer Brown chickens where the farmer is so devoted to his poultry that he spends all his time with them and lavishes love and attention on them, even bringing them into his vehicle and his home. The punch line is, "They taste so good because they eat so good". It seems that the love and devotion showered on his flock ceases when it comes time to slaughter the unfortunate creatures and make a whole lot of money selling them to the supermarkets.
