Watch the World(s). A Second Life Machinima by Robbie Dingo

Last Saturday I was chatting with a long time friend online, who always brings in new perspectives and points towards pages or experiences widening your horizon. This time he immediately sent me a video file even before saying hello with the comment: "You gotta check this out, Erik."

The video was about Robbie Dingo's incredible "Watch The World(s)" which is a Second Life virtualization of the famous Vincent van Gogh painting "The Starry Night". The music in the video is incredibly well-matched - Don McLean's "Vincent".

It is truly incredibly and peaceful. It also brings into a very interesting aspect of virtualization and what they can provide is with experiences. Which painting, episode in history or similar do you want to experience? I think it is incredibly cool.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the post. For me I kinda wish I had been around when Da Vinci painted the last supper. I stood in front of the painting for 15 minutes and often feel it burnt it's way into my brain. An experience I truly will treasure for the rest of my days.

Salvador Dali's Last Supper, that would be a magnificent piece to see being constructed before my very eyes.

Obviously the song is perfect for the subject being addressed. However, too melancholy for me. I remember riding the school bus and that song would come on the radio (we had one of the few buses equipped with a radio) and I remember feeling how that song would drag on. I was definitely a R&R child. I never listened too much to the words then. Many years later, I understand the song but it's melancholy and given the events in my life during this past year, I try hard to avoid melancholy. The imagery of the portrait coming together was very cool. I really enjoyed seeing that come together.
