SANTA CRUZ, CA, ---A wildfire broke out around 7: p.m. in the Santa Cruz, CA, area.

Within several hours, one thousand acres were burning and evacuation of homes, close to the area, were being advised. The fire is located in a heavy wooden area around Swanson Road

Three hundred men were on the fire line, and five to seven hundred more are on their way to the fire: the CAl Fire Air Force can not attack the fire until first light of day.

At 11:00 p.m., heavy smoke was filling the area and flames can be seen from a distance. At one point, the fire crowned, jumps from tree top to tree top, which spread the fire more and more. Once a wildfire or forest fire starts to crown, it is very hard to stop. The sound is like dynamite going off, and can be very scary if you do not know what is going on.

At the present time, the fire is running wild and no control or containment can be seen tonight.
