No Burquinis Allowed In Paris

Seems that burquinis (burkinis) are no longer allowed in french swimming pools. Burquinis are the muslim version of bathing suits created by an australian muslim woman. The burquini covers all body parts with the exception of the face, hands, and feet.

On August 1, a 35 year old muslim woman named Carole went to a pool in which she was a member and was told by the pool's management that she would no longer be allowed to use the pool facilities while wearing the burquini even though she had attended the pool using the same attire a few times prior.

The woman proceeded to file charges at the nearest police station citing segregation. She was lead to believe that this was more of a political issue rather than segregation. But the pool's management insist that the restriction has nothing to do with political or religious issues but instead with hygiene and that it was their mistake to have allowed the woman to use the attire on previous occasions.

This is just the most recent in a series of problems in France related to muslim attire. Recently the French National Assembly decided to make an inquiry into whether French women should be allowed to wear burkas after President Nicolas Sarkozy stated that the burka was "not a sign of religion" but "a sign of subservience" and announced that the burka would not be welcomed in France.
