Bogey of terrorists on Independence Day

New Delhi : India | 3 months ago
Views: 35

During important national events like the Independence Day and Republic Day, the security personnel go on a rounding-up spree of especially those who come to the capital from Kashmir. Beginning January 2000, the New Delhi police had rounded-up as many as 24,000 suspects – none has been convicted till date. Why then should such exercises continue? Whose benefit are these for? People are taken into custody and the visuals on TV networks show them with faces covered and in chains being taken into the prison van. Are these really terror suspects or is it just an eyewash by the authorities to show that some sort of security system is in place? No one would know for certain because, in spite of such strict measures, untoward instances do take place and the people on top resort to the blame games. The Centre says the State had been warned and the State denies receipt of any specific information.
