Typhoon in Taiwan

Taipei : Taiwan | 3 months ago
Views: 308

A typhoon named Morakot has swept through Taiwan leaving behind a trail of destruction. There has been only one death reported and loss of property – the rising rivers created havoc. Winds of up to 119 Kilometers per hour added to the miseries. Flights have been cancelled and work in ports has been affected. Reports mention that the typhoon has, since moved towards China. Typhoons are a common phenomenon in the region and arise from the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean or South China Sea.

Thanks for this report. This is a prime example of what I've been asking for from people every time I submit stories about droughts in our own areas. There are people all over the Western hemisphere that are telling us we have no issue with "global warming" because we have had fewer hurricanes this season & they never seem to take typhoons into consideration & we rarely hear about them in the U.S. as those stories are rarely "sensationalized" enough to attract the attentions of the public. At the very least as many of this publications' reporters are literally all over the world I keep hoping to get better information that covers entire weather patterns world wide rather than the localized information we get. Thanks again for your information & have a great day, yer pal Mel Bell.

I saw that on the Australian Channel news yesterday afternoon how the block of apartments fell in the water. They shouldn't be building on the
sand too close to the water. The building was not anchored and there are
no foundations to it. The moral to this is, Build upon the rock but not upon the sand, a rock has firm foundation. 10/8/2009.

melbell and mllovric - these are the inherent dangers of constructing buildings too close to the sea shore or the river banks - atually, over a period of time, the course of the river changes or the sea begins to come inland - then such catastrophies happen ... even in mumbai, warnings have been given to people whose houses are too dangerously close to the sea...
