The 15-year old boy Kalem Ames had knifed a man to death. The man was 22-year old Shayne Pita Walker who was flirting with the boy’s girl friend. It seems Walker was drinking in the house of Ames and was eying the girl. This annoyed Ames who warned Walker. Later he stabbed Walker in the back and burned the knife with a cigarette lighter. Walker succumbed to the injuries. A majority decision by the jury in the High Court in Hamilton had found him guilty of manslaughter. The defence maintained that Ames had not done it with the intention of killing Walker but had done it just to frighten him.
