While many people out there don't think much about music, there are many of us that rarely think of anything else. Even 'though I don't really work in the business anymore any work I did do I did because I loved the musicians & their work. During the time I did work in music as a manager of a small live music venue in Houston, Texas I got to know members of two of the most talented tribute bands touring the United States today - both bands are all women's bands doing tributes to two of the hardest rock bands to play, one band is HELL'S BELLS, a tribute band to AC/DC & the other is LEZ ZEPPELIN, yep you guessed it a tribute band to LED ZEPPELIN.
I first heard of HELL'S BELLS after having met ADRIAN CONNER of ADRIAN & THE SICKNESS when she played her 1st time in Houston. Later she brought her pals out for a show with HELL'S BELLS & they were awesome! I saw AC/DC at a point in their career where they had reached the jaded rockstar stage & they did not really put on much of a show, while I still know most of the words to their songs, I was not real impressed with their show & most of the people @ that show agreed with me. More than 20 years later I watched HELL'S BELLS do their show & I was very impressed & surprized to learn I still knew most of the words to the songs I hadn't listened to for years. As far as I can see HELL'S BELLS only have a few more shows to do this season & I think y'all might want to put this on your calendars if you are around Montana or Washington, Tonight they are @ a place called The Zebra Cocktail Lounge in Bozeman, Montana. Tomorrow HELL'S BELLS play a place in Three Forks, Montana called Rockin' the Rivers & on Sunday for El Corazon Tattoo Festival in Seattle Washington. These ladies put on one of the most energetic & impressive shows I've seen, if you are not in the areas they are playing this week end be sure to check out their schedules @ <http://www.myspace.com/hellsbells>
So, if an all lady tribute band to AC/DC isn't something you would have thought to look for, you might have also missed out on the wonderful ladies of LEZ ZEPPELIN. I first saw them in 2007 & had hoped to bring them by the club I managed only to learn that the club was undergoing major renovation at the time of their show in Houston & so did not get to spend time with them, but was overjoyed when I learned that not one, but two of my good friends were to join the ladies of LEZ ZEPPELIN. My friends, P.J. FLOWERS & LEESA HARRINGTON-SQUYRES are now respectively the lead singer & drummer of LEZ ZEPPELIN. LEZ ZEPPELIN only seems to have a couple of shows on the horizon as well, the first one up will be ROCK 95's ROCKSTOCK FESTIVAL in Toronto, Canada next Saturday August 15 & on August 22 @ Stephen Talkhouse in The Hamptons. While I haven't met the other ladies in the band, I loved the performances they gave when I saw them in 2007 & I've known P.J. & LEESA for many years & consider them to be two of the hardest ROCKING ladies I ever met. P.J. has a band of her own & was just set as the opening band THE P.J. FLOWERS BAND, for a HEART show here in Houston on August 27 & will be singing a great set of her own music, before getting to see two of her & my biggest heroes of music ANN & NANCY WILSON. LEESA HARRINGTON-SQUYRES has drummed with many people through the years including another friend I recently wrote about CAROLYN WONDERLAND & DIUNNA GREENLEAF A world renowned BLUES DIVA of Houston & LEESA HARRINGTON-SQUYRES is hands down one of the most impressive & explosive drummers I have ever seen including most men that can't touch the power that she exudes into her drums. Again if you won't be in the areas they are playing soon, make sure to put their myspace <http://www.myspace.com/lezzeppelin&g
I regret that I am a bit challenged when it comes to adding videos to these articles, I plan on adding a few youtube videos from the bands mentioned, but will add those videos later rather than throwing things @ my computer now. If you think about check back later or just go to youtube & enter both HELL'S BELLS, LEZ ZEPPELIN & P.J. FLOWERS. I hope everyone has a wonderful week end & that you get a chance to check out my friends or some of the wonderful bands in your own area, again, I'd like to refer anyone interested in new music to check out the bands listed in my own myspace which I created as a way to share my friends' awesome talents with all of you. <http://www.myspace.com/starsong9>
