Hundreds of Saudi women protested outside a University in Taif, a city in the south of Makkah when admissions were closed before the time specified.
According to local papers, Okaz and Saudi Gazette the students along with their guardians were seen outside the gates of Taif University on Monday, blocking traffic after they were refused admission despite it being announced earlier that admissions were in progress.
The women in their black'abayahs'( covered head to toe robes) were beaten by women security guards and one female guardian was injured.
Red Crescent relief team treated the woman concerned while others were adamant in their protest and kept sitting at the gates of the university. This was a very rare sight as normally protests are not allowed in the Kingdom.
The students complained of corrupt practices and declared that those who were less qualified were given admission while deserving students were refused a seat in the college.
The dean of the college admissions, Hisham Al Zaheer, however denied the allegations and said they were fair with all concerned.
DAWN news.
