It's mind boggling... A TOILET has actually become a major political issue on board the ISS (International Space Station)...
It started back in 2003 when the Russian space agency (which was going through an economically bad time) decided to start charging the American Space Agency for various "services" aboard the ISS.
The Americans in turn started charging the Russians for services that they used - it didn't take long before new rules were issued - everyone was ordered to use their own stuff...
The astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the ISS wanted no part of the beaureacratic nonsense and tried to work thing out among themselves - but the two agencies weren't helping....
Then the NASA decided to "get tough" and started charging Russia for the use of their toilet!!! The Russian Space Agency told their cosmonauts to instead use the toilet in the Russian transport vehicle...
Karma then took over and the American toilet recently broke down - which has put them into a quandry, because the only other "American" toilets available are when the shuttle is docked... NASA is now finding themselves at the mercy of those who they were trying to be so "tough" with...
Aren't politics wonderful???
I've included a video you might find "interesting" that shows how the space toilet works (when it does...)
