There is Nothing Wrong with Not Having a Tan

As the fashion trends change the idea of a perfect beauty changes as well. Not only clothes but also the skin, its appearance and its radiance are an important factor when labelling someone as beautiful or not. And everybody knows how women are sensitive to this issue. Lately men have also started to be more interested in the appearance of their skin.

If your skin is rather light coloured everybody knows the remedy for this: the tan. Whether it is the sun or the tanning bed, a nice glowing, tanned skin is the ultimate expression of beauty. The only problem is that beauty does not last forever (but here one could argue that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”) and this kind of achieved beauty does no good on the long term.

Tanning beds, because they use ultraviolet radiation have been labelled as "probable carcinogens" but now it is a demonstrated fact. The risk of skin cancer increases with 75 percent for people who start using tanning beds before the age of 30.

Tanning beds and other sources of ultraviolet radiation are now in the same category with the arsenic and mustard gas.

The debate still goes on as apparently there is no proven link between the responsible use of tanning beds and skin cancer but everybody knows that the ultraviolet radiation is there when using a tanning bed.

Doctors say that they have noticed an increase in the number of young people with skin cancer at the same time with the increase of the use of tanning beds among people under 30.

Some previous studies showed that there is a 8 times higher chance of getting skin cancer for people who regularly use tanning beds that for those who have never used one.

Besides, the skin already is very much affected by the sun, wind, weather conditions. We already have problems with the UV’s coming from the sun, do we need extra damage? Why can one not feel comfortable in its own more or less coloured skin?
