Olympics for the Gay

Copenhagen : Denmark | 4 months ago
Views: 46

Welcome to the OUTGAMES, an Olympics for the gay ones to be held in Copenhagen. There will be contract bridge addition to triathlon, handball and 30 other events. It would be a 9-day affair and gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgenders from all over the world would congregate there to showcase their talents. The participation is expected to be in the region of 5500 and embrace 100 nations. A major event would be a human rights conference, where speakers who have declared their gay tendencies would speak. The Director of the event expects to attract persons from countries where gay people still face oblique glances from others – the organizers of OUTGAMES have even funded the travel expenses for nearly 250 participants from Asia, Latin America and Africa.

    Why a Gay games?
Surely sexuality is no barrier to athletic performance? If you're a top gay althete you should be competing in top athletic events, not those restricted by your sexual preference. I can't see how these are anything other than divisive, and open participants up to the usual jokes (100 metres mince, anyone?)

True, but in many countries sexuality is still a big issue; in some places being homosexual is even a crime punishable by death. At the Gay Games the athletes can be themselves without worry. They are planning a Pride House in Vancouver but it isn't known if any of the athletes will visit for fear of reprisals and suspicion.
