“Run Forrest Run…” is a line from the movie Forrest Gump. But the Philippine has a local version of it, when priest-turned Governor Eddie “Among Ed” Panlilio, announced his plan to run for the 2010 Presidential election.

With this, the saying you can’t please everybody becomes true. There are those people who want him to run and there are those who don’t.

The point of those who are not in favor believe that he should not meddle in politics, instead focus on his duty as a priest. Other reason is he is not yet ready. A government employee (name was not mentioned due to the interviewee's request), said that he is most consistent among inconsistents.

While the people who are in favor of Among Ed’s candidacy stated that he has the capability to become a good president. He is qualified for the position. Gov. Panlilio according to his supporters is flexible, understanding and was able to increase the Quarry’s earnings in Pampanga by more than 300%.

The Pampanga Capitol records show that the quarry produces an estimated amount of 240 Billion nowadays. Comparing it to the 25 Billion produced before Gov. Panlilio, the industry has really improved.

Through the personal interview with him, Panlilio said that the reason why he wants to run because he was urged by people.

Gov. Panlilio has three indicators he considered before announcing the certificate of candidacy. First, if there is no other candidate that can answer the need for an upright president. Second, if he has a lot of support. Third, it was a God calling.

But he also said that “if there is a worthier candidate than me, edi ya ing iboto tamu.” (If there is a worthier candidate than me, then let us vote for that person)

The question now, can Among Ed run for president or not?

Looking on the Philippine Constitution, under Article VII Section 2, Gov. Panlilio is qualified to run. He has the power to choose whether to run or not.

If Gov. Panlilio will eye for the president position there is no assurance that Filipinos will vote for him 100%. Running won’t mean winning.
