The European Constitution- Treason in Two Acts

It seems, following the European voters' overwhelming rejection of the proposed EU Constitution, and the Irish rejection of the repackaged constitution (the "Lisbon Treaty"), that it has been decided that the people gave the wrong answer.

By whom has this been decided? By the EU government, an organisation with an admittedly poor democratic track record (their policies are decided by a council of 25 appointed ministers- the EU parliament is merely a place to discuss or amend these directives), but nevertheless an organisation that claims as one of its justifications a commitment to democracy!

It is genuinely hard to conceive a greater violation of democratic principles that doesn't involve shooting people. What overwhelming arrogance these so-called democrats display when they openly defy the will of the people, what vicious hypocrisy to do so in the name of democracy, and what is this violation of the basic principle of Western society but outright treason?

It is simply not for the elected officials of Ireland to override the results of a referendum, especially on matters so linked to national sovereignty, and for the same to be done by the elected officials of Greece and Romania is not only absurd, it is a direct challenge to the integrity of the Irish state and Irish democracy.

Totalitarian playwright Berthold Brecht once wrote ironically-

...

Would it not be easier

In that case for the government

To dissolve the people

And elect another?

It is this behaviour, absurd even to a Marxist writing in East Germany, that we see today from those in the EU Parliament who would openly defy the very concept from which they claim their disputed legitimacy.
