I think that Pakastan's Government is going to find it a little difficult to extradite people from forgien countries that simply make fun of their president, and I don't think that interpol will actually assist them in an extradition and arrest from a forgien country.I am very confident that the US certainly would not assist in such an arrest when there are far more serious crimes committed such as child molestation, rape, kidnapping, murder, etc. Is Pakastan going to pay for all this extradition if they want eveyone that commits this offence? If that were the case in the US every comedian in this country would be arrested specifically Jay Leno, Connan O'Brien, and David Letterman as well as others. Pakastan needs to lighten up and besides aren't their country full of terrorist and worse criminal elements than poking fun at their president. In my country I have the first ammendment right, which is: Grants freedom of worship, speech & press, the right to petition the government & to assemble peacefully. I could care less about their president nor any politician anywhere including my country for that matter, I support the troops but I do not support the government anywhere.I served my country and I was born an American therefore I have as well as others in this country have rights that other countries don't have and rights that we take for grantid. I thank God that I'm an American with the right to make fun of the president and not have to worry about a wrongfully government imposed jail sentence.

I completely and 100% agree. Actually, the whole time I read this news report, I constantly was thinking, "This is absolutely ridiculous. A US soldier was just captured by the Taliban. Like five airplanes have crashed and killed more than five on board. People are spreading rape-simulating video games. Children are kidnapped every day. Afghanistan and Pakistan are constantly fighting about the border between them. The minority ethnic group (I've forgotten their name) in China had a riot with local Han Chinese and some got killed by the police there, and this man is worried about people making fun of him?!" Fourteen years of prison and the help of Interpol to arrest the person who "commits this crime" if he's in a foreign country?

If Pakistan's president agreed to be put in the post of presidency, he agreed to the publicity and the open fire shots that can come at him. I don't think he's even allowed to curb what people say about him (I don't mean individual's rights because I don't know what Pakistan's laws are on individual's freedom of speech), but just innately or by common sense, this president needs to set his priorities straight and become less insecure. Who's going to trust him to lead their nation towards peace and progress if he's afraid, offended and embarassed by some prat poking fun at him?

First the Government tried to increase the price of sending sms, when that faced opposition in the Parliament they resorted to this tactic. This shows nothing but their insecurity along with lack of confidence in their popularity among the masses; which is plunging deeper and deeper everyday already.
Reply By aarana aarana | 4 months ago
My dear friend allknower,
If such insecurity is continue in Pakistan, then what will be the future of normal residental of Pakistan.
Any way thanks for comment.

A sad news indeed...but i doubt if they will be able to extradite anyone from outside Pakistan....on the other hand, the government admitted that they do not have the technology to scan every SMS or email....i think the government will only use this law to harass their opponents and critics!!!

This is the most ridiculous law and we plan to protest its implementation as soon as can be organised. It is a violation of the constitution that was written by the founder of this very party, and...where do I begin.

The PPP is showing itself to be a truly fascist party. Zardari is a thug and everyone in this country knows this and no one has any idea how angry this law is making people here.

Not only does this law ban the use of the word Zardari in Texts, it also protects other members of the new government. I mean this is the height, the limit, and we the people have to do something about it.

We are guaranteed freedom of speech, Not only that but these disgusting thugs who are sitting running our country now are ruling it like they're kings while half the country starves and people suffer in the heat without electricity. We are pissed now, and this is going to change. I can't believe these people are so sick and disgusting. Sorry but I'm going to rant about this and the words are just pouring out of me. I will write an article soon that delineates exactly why this is happening and the set up of the parties and their thinking that allows for laws like this. About the system and politicians here in general. Wow.

I believe every country should be the same when it comes to government, for the people by the people, not for the government forget the people. It seems every government official voted into office by the people tend to forget their promises that they made to the people just to motivate a vote during the election period.

I have to say that President Bush should have had his butt kicked for what he did to the people of New Orleanes, Louisiana when hurricane Katrina hit and devistated the town. That was not only mismanaged by the federal government but their local authorities as well as FEMA. So it seems no matter what country in the world you tlak about when it comes to government they are all corrupt and should be dismantled and run by the people and the people alone.

It is very regretful that our Media is constantly supporting fifth columns in our society that aimed to destroy and destabilize this country. I can not use harsh words in my comments as it is a public forum but I would certainly say that curse on such media that is being funded by foreign elements and fulfilling their agenda by creating pandemonium among masses. This forum is also one of those mediums that are actively used by anti- Pakistan factors. It is shameful that our Media is big partner of propaganda campaign against Govt and creating despondency among masses by using such mediums.. That’s why Govt took this decision. On the other hand terrorist elements are equally taking advantage of such medium to carry out their activities. It is a democratically elected Govt and it is the clear proof of this thing that Govt did not ban this service and just decided to monitor it for the betterment of people not for personal agenda.
Govt has clearly stated that any action will be taken after an individual or firm will lodge complaint in this regard, this is not so a misconstrued by some of the mischief makers.

I'm sorry; I don't quite understand your point of the link between the media and the government? Or maybe, how your comment relates to this new idea of the president to imprison those who ridicule him? I'd like to understand, so maybe you can explain it a little more?
Thanks!
