I am challenging all citizens of the United States to purge "Un-Americans" from our midst. Ho-hum NeSmith, what an incindiary thing to say. Quite the contrary, what a noble thing to demand. Take for example the recent rantings by ex-Veep and creep Dick Cheney that perhaps Colin Powell was never a Republican to begin with. Or the rantings before that by nut-job politician Bob Buchanan in his op-ed piece entitled "Tribal Politics" where he lambasted Powell as nothing more than a man who became a general and a colonel through appointments by Republican Presidents and praise by Republicans. Oh my, how un-american can you be? Purge these types of people from your ranks my fellow Americans. Is there no debate that can be had civily without resorting to a)inserting race as a means to gain and upperhand and to lean on centuries-old, prejudice-backed biases and b) lying. Let's examine where Buchanan, and all those who favor this nut and the other nut (Cheney) lied. Colin Powell didn't endorse Barack Obama because of race. In fact, Powell himself stated "If I had only that fact in mind, I could have done this six, eight, ten months ago." when questioned by Tom Brokaw on the subject. Even further, if Powell definitely was winking to blacks to appeal to racial biases (of a good minor 13% of our entire population......can Buchanan count or is he "tribally" forgetting that there is no way all the adults of 13% of the U.S. population could actually sway too many votes in their favor) why oh why did Buchanan not speak out against this during the Nixon campaign, the Thurmond campaign and the Reagan campaign that winked publicly from Philadelphia, Mississippi? Even further, Buchanan seems to forget Powell's service record. Cheney, Coulter, Hannity, Limbaugh (a prescription drug abuser) or the Grand Dragon for breakfast, anyone? That anyone would listen to the tirades of the likes of Limbaugh and Buchanan without researching the men and their principles on their own is simply.....un-American. Too many leaders in the Republican party, one who could tell the difference between Alaska and Russia and international political engagement from her own backyard. Let's review Powell's career and then make a determination as to how much of his career he owes to white Republicans....many of whom did not serve or did not serve for very long in any war they so handily and readily supported.
He was wounded in Vietnam while serving as a Captain and advisor to the South Vietnamese. Is this a "tribal" or "un-american" notch on the belt of someone who would've become a Republican only to screw them later? I think not. Anyone who does is glossing over the fact that this man was in a war zone, in uniform and served his duty while having it documented. Cheerleader "dubya" can't even find records of his actual service during Vietnam.....on the U.S. mainland. He held a number of assistant and advisor positions and was awarded numerous badges of honor from the United States Military as he rose through the ranks to become 12th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1989. This is hardly an easy accomplishment for an African-American in the United States Army to be consistently relied upon for guidance during war time. Or is it that the likes of Buchanan and Cheney and Limbaugh and others are claiming that the United States Military routinely appoints, hires and trains people within their ranks that are unfit for military service and routinely have these people lead our military? Then that would beg the question of why we should support troops who would kill themselves in greater numbers and further put our entire country in jeopardy for lack of training and incompetency. Are we the greatest military power in the world? If not, why on earth should we be fighting wars before we purge these inept leaders from our midst? To get back on topic, one of the biggest reason the G.O.P. can't be taken seriously anymore is that tendency to so quickly label citizens and party members as "un-american" or "un-anything". The tendency to ostracize before you listen and point the "them" finger at the other people in the room exposes the inherent fear of a group of men and women who prove to be solely anti-American in their own right. If we are to revere our nations slaveowning and slave-raping forefathers who's noblest ideals left us with a representative democracy and a huge laissez faire capitalist economic system then we must purge ourselves of those in our midst (general politics here, I am not a Republican) who represent the baseness of our forefather's character that led them to decry the existence of factions and tyranny. Tyrants are, after all, over-grown schoolyard bullies. Bullies, when confronted have two options- to fend for themselves and risk someone proving they are in fact weak and weak-minded or to run and hide and hope to regain schoolyard power through support of another bully. In thinking out of the box I implore my fellow citizens to call a spade a spade. Man-up everyone and purge these bigoted, cowardly, word-spinning, elitist megalomaniacs from our ranks before they destroy civilization as we know it. Start with the G.O.P. and rebuild the G.O.P. into a real party of people who really are serving their civic duty and not the duty of the hooded men they made pacts with and became after Kennedy's nomination.
