Sources said an oil tanker loaded with 50,000 litres of GP1 petrol was on way to Afghanistan for NATO forces via Torkham highway when the militants from the nearby mountains attacked it with rockets and other automatic weapons.
The oil tanker caught fire, leaving cleaner Nasir, resident of Shalman, dead and driver Gul Said injured. The tanker and the oil were burnt completely in the attack. The attack triggered a fierce battle between security forces and militants who targeted each other’s positions with light and heavy weapons.
A local identified as Shahaan Afridi was killed and two others sustained critical injuries when they were hit by a shell during an exchange of fire between security forces and the militants. One of the injured persons was identified as Irfan while the name of other could not be ascertained.
