A 20 year old woman who has stayed in marriage for 8 years has for the second time delivered a stone instead of a baby. Reports says that a woman given the same stone last year and it is very suprising to her that it has happened again to her life. Life of this lady seems to be in danger as she has also delivered two deadly babies apart from that two stones.

Agness Misolo who hails from Kukada village in traditional authority Mkanda said she has great enemity with her brother who challenged her that she will keep on delivering a stone

She further said that first time she took the case to the village chief but no any assistance happened to her. And she also said that she is going now to report to the police with the hope of getting assistance.

Health authorities at the hospital said Misolo’s case was not a rare Lithopedion medical phenomenon, which occurs when a pregnancy fails and the fetus actually calcifies while still in the mother’s body.

The hospital has since discharged the woman.

Sooner or later this young woman is going to die because she will get pregnant again and again and with no medical help forthcoming it is just a matter of time. I have great sympathy for this lady because I know that in her country the possibility that her husband will have a vasectomy is remote...

What exactly do you mean that she delivered a stone? I.e. that her baby was dead, or that she actually had a stone form in her womb over 9 months. Either way it sounds pretty awful and not something I would like to see.

I didn't know a dead fetus could calcify into a solid mass, especially while still in the womb. That's horrible. I hope the hospital there can do more for her than simply discharge her. She needs help to prevent this from happening again.

With the lack of prenatal care in developing countries, this is not as rare as it may seem. When the woman receives proper prenatal care, if the fetus died in utero the doctor monitors the situation and intervenes to induce the expulsion of the products of conception (in other words, the baby who died). If the woman's body does not start the process itself, the woman's uterus treats the foreign object as an intruder and begins the calcification process to protect the woman from infection.

In any case, it is sad for the mother, not to mention extremely dangerous for her health.

I didn't know there was a scientific explanation for it. But it is still horrific. That is one of the most disturbing images I've ever seen and definitely one of he most disturbing facts I've heard. We should put this picture up when demanding better health-care and aid for poverty stricken countries where women receiving proper pre-natal care is a dream or a fantasy. Maybe that would get the boys in power to sit up and take notice of the daily misery and horror that accompanies extreme poverty.

How bad it is to deliver a still born baby but think, was she given some
kind of a drug or potion for that to happen or was something put into her

It is just my understanding of village thoughts - but this would not be caused by an outside effect - it is a curse. Curses hold credibility in tribal areas - they are not taken lightly.

If I am incorrect, someone please correct me...

I've heard of such things like this happening. But maybe not to someone so young. Recently I heard the story of a woman who was old and was pregnant with the child in her for more than 20 yrs. When she went into labor and saw a woman next to her lose her child, she got frightened and ran off and the child she too was carrying died inside her but never came out from her body thus the child turned to stone.
