Every citizen should be equal under the eyes of the law. Yeah right! I read that 3 police officers in NYC was freed from all charges after shooting a black kid during his bachelor party with 50 shots. One of the officers shot 31 rounds against the car. I for sure wasn't at the scene then, but based on what has been told through media, yet acknowledging the fact that it might very well be slanted and a skewed picture, this seems like a pretty non-proportional response. The reason was that the officers claim the group in the car tried to run for it. Let me ask you something: If you would not have done anything and three officers approach you with drawn guns, wouldn't you try to get out of the way? Most people will then react instinctively and irrational. Who is to blame for that? The group? The officers? I seriously do not know if you can fully blame either of them. Both are products of our society of today.
One thing I sadly wonder: Would this have happened to a group of white, upper class kids? I unfortunately do not think that. And even more scary. Would they have walked in the case of killing those white upper class kids? I say no way. That is the real sad part. Before we as a society start to treat people the same regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality or religion, we will never be equal under the law because the law is the direct reflection of us. Sadly we haven't come very far as for treating our fellow beings equal.
Am I wrong? If not, what do we do about it?
