Sophia Rudyeva from taking part in the Miss World beauty contest. Still, her participation is not totally ruled out, since there is no explicit rule stating that contestants cannot take part in nude photo shootings.

Soon after Sophia, aged 18, was crowned Miss Russia, photographs showing her in the nude appeared all over the Internet. It turned out that a while ago, reportedly when the girl was only 15 years old, she posed for an adult magazine erotic photo session. This is shocking behavior for the girl that is to represent Russia at the international beauty contest, but so far she has not been officially banned from the pageant.

“It was always taken for granted that the contestants could never be part of anything of the sort,” former head of the Miss Russia research commission, Ilya Prokhortsev, who designed the contest's original rules, told Komsomolskaya Pravda daily Thursday.

“So we kind of never included this point into our written rules. This is a nonsensical situation.”

The problem seems to be that Sophia, who represented St. Petersburg at the Miss Russia contest, had not, like the rest of the contestants, taken part in the regional part of the pageant, but was taken in the last moment as a substitute for the original Miss St. Petersburg. By skipping the regional level of the contest, Sophia also skipped a good part of the background check.

Unfortunately in the US it seems that when a woman is crowned Miss America then next thing discovered is "nude photos" (or topless, or drunk partying, etc.)

Perhaps it is time to stop putting women on parade for their appearance!

Er, if they stop putting women on parade for their appearance, is that itself not a form of discrimination?
Anything that bills itself as a "Beauty Contest" is at least honest from one POV: looks and looks alone are the reason anybody watches these cheesecake parades.
The dishonesty comes into play when they pretend that the contestants are "less" than moral if they took their clothes off for someone else, and --worse-- allowed the act to be recorded.
Many of the women who compete in these meat market shows are models to begin with, so it's the height of hypocrisy to pretend that a few strips of cloth makes their performances on the beauty pageant stage "moral" but that their paying the monthly rent by posing nude is not.
The lookism industry is not going to go away any time soon, so insisting that they make the environment more respectful of the participants is ultimately the more important priority here.

Good God these women aren't running for President or Vice President! They aren't hurting anybody and are providing men (and possibly women) with entertainment and visual pleasure that they themselves tuned in with intent to watch and enjoy. Hypocrisy, distorted sense of morality and that old 'the woman ate that apple' adage, so she must continue to be paraded and punished. It's just another industry of exploit, might as well punish the participants. If you want to dig up dirt, plant a garden!

Well, it seems like these entertainment antics have flustered more than a few feathers- this sector of popular culture ultimately suggests more of the viewers and consumers than the actual actors themselves most of the time. If people would immerse themselves in infinitely more pressing issues, perhaps terrorism, poverty, hunger, epidemics, and the like just might have a chance of being alleviated...
