Will It Harm the Future?

A question that has been burning in my mind of late has been this:

What will a failed Obama Presidency do to the future prospects of an African American Presidential Candidate?

Prior to President Obama, the most notible African Americans to run for the highest office were Rev Jessie Jackson and Rev Al Sharpton. Neither one would I dare say were even close to worthy either as representatives of African Americans as a whole, much less a President.

Now on the main headline from Drudge is a poll by Rasmussen showing a steady decline in those who "Strongly Approve" and a steady growth in those who "Strongly Disapprove" in the job performance of our President. I am not in either catagory myself, but I still disapprove of his policies and how he has been handling his job.

But will a failure in policy and performance do more than get himself voted out of office? Will it possibly harm great African American politicians such as RNC Chairman Michael Steele or (my current overall favorite politician) Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter from attaining the Presidency?

No question: Obama becoming President was indeed a triumph for African Americans in US politics. Let's hope he doesn't erase that progress by the end of his term. I hope he doesn't.
