Who is Rebiya Kadeer?

The unrest in Xinjiang province of China that has taken 156 lives and injured hundreds of others and holds the attention of the World right now is reported to be the remote controlled handiwork of a woman named Rebiya Kadeer. Who is she? She is all of 63-years old and has been exiled in the United States since 2005 after being imprisoned in her homeland in 1999 and later released. The reason for the jail was for passing on intelligence information to foreigners – the information was not classified or confidential but publicly available. She was a laundress and has 11 children of her own – two of them are in prison in China. However, she considers the millions of Uighurs as her children. The Chinese authorities hold her responsible for instigating the riots – she retaliates by saying that it is the Chinese authorities themselves who are the culprits.
