America, Did We Not Fight For Freedom All Ready?

Homosexual marriage is the big issue on the floor for debate and it has been for the past 8 years. The definition of marriage has been defined by the government according to the Bible;however is there not supposed to be a separation of church and state? Is this not what our founding fathers had agreed upon when building the country from the ground up?

The argument of this issue appears to be simple; a marriage is defined as a man and a woman as husband and wife. The problem which our government tends to overlook is that a marriage is a union between two individuals who make the decision to spend the rest of their lives together. The individuals involved in the union have committed themselves to one person and to the mindset to start a family with that person.

Massachusetts is suing the government for discrimination against same-sex marriages, specifically focusing on the Defense of Marriage Act in which it has defined marriage as a union between a man and woman as husband and wife. This is discriminatory for the reason of;it prevents homosexual couples to receive the same benefits as heterosexual couples.

America equals the land of the free or at least that is what we believe the country to stand for. Freedom means just that, to be free. However we are not truly free. We have become slaves for our government, puppets in fact. Our hard earned money goes to the government 365 days a year and more so during tax season. We are prisoners of our debt which the government does not see fit to assist those in dire need of financial attention. We are restricted and binded to the slavery of poverty yet they also assume the power of telling us who we may and may not marry. They define what is an accepted marriage rather than what marriage is.

The law is created to protect all citizens. It is meant to be fair judgement for all citizens. President Obama wants to make change and has agreed to work toward a repeal for the Defense of Marriage Act. Under President Obama, change seems to be taking appropriate shape, though it is a slow process. America is for the free and brave, not the judgemental and heterosexual;also the divorce rate is well on the rise for heterosexuals, maybe we can learn something from our fellow citizens. Give them the rights they deserve as American citizens and stop labeling. Labels are nothing but the person is everything.

I'm a conservative Republican, and I firmly believe people who love each other, and make a commitment to each other, deserve to be allowed the sanctity of marriage.

I'm a Christian, and I don't find that belief to be, in any manner, inconsistent with my beliefs. My Jewish wife feels the same.

It's not who we love, but how we love that is important.

Using any religious canon or doctrine as an excuse for homophobia, persecution, or discrimination is pure hypocrisy and unacceptable in the United States.

I completely agree firesisle and I'm a Democrat. LOL But you see, society has drawn these lines and so have most Christians do the same. They condemn those who are different from themselves and it sends the wrong message about God. I am an open minded Christian. I try my best not to judge yet I know even I'm guilty of it. Another thing that Christians fail to realize is that God gave us the gift of choice. What people are doing to each other and discriminating against each other in such way as well as other ways, is NOT God's way. I will fight for those whom wrong is being done to. I have experienced first hand prejudice, arrogance and discrimination. And I do not feel it is an issue for debate. There are other matters to resolve in this country and same-sex marriages is not one of them. We should all have the same rights. That is the definition of America and it is what God has given us. He has given us gifts that we abuse, not use. No matter what political party we label ourselves apart of, we have similar beliefs and together we must stand if we want our country to be as our founding fathers intended, as God has intended.

I agree completely... I've been a supporter of gay rights for a long time...

So have I. I have a cousin and a friend who is gay. They are no different and that's the problem with our world. Michael Jackson was a prime example of what to do. He provided understanding when there was none and broke barriers. Just because we're not celebrities doesn't mean we can't do the same and I fully intend on doing so.
