Fireworks go off at a wrong time

Madurai : India | 5 months ago
Views: 69

Fireworks are supposed to go off to celebrate important occasions and during festival times. However, the fireworks went off at the wrong time in a fireworks factory in Madurai – it killed at least 16 persons (mostly children). The dead included the wife and mother of the owner. Safety precautions are far below the requirements in these firework factories that continue to employ child labor even though it is prohibited by law. Ignorance of children plays havoc and death by fires and explosions are not uncommon. As festival season approaches, the activities in these factories increase and carelessness can be disastrous. In this case, one version says that the explosion occurred when the finished goods were being stored while another version says that it was a result of tests on finished products.

A very sad story. The government should keep a strict vigil on these dangerous factories and heavy fines should be charged if that labor laws are not implemented.Parents are equally responsible as they allow their young children to work in these dangerous places without realizing the consequences. Child labor is very common in Pakistan as well.10 year- olds are seen working with mechanics, learning the skill on the job.

the kids are from poor families and the parents wilingly send them to work because of the money they bring in ... at times the parents take along the kids with them ... it is a social evil and the owners take advantage of the situation ..
